Rev. Timothy Buelow was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He holds a B.A from Northwestern College, Watertown. Wisconsin where he attended as a pre-ministerial student, graduating in 1982. That same year he continued his studies at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. During his seminary years he served as a vicar at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, Michigan where weekly German services were offered. After his vicar year, Rev. Buelow took an extra year of studies with Dr. Seth Erlandsson at the Biblicum Bible Research Institute in Uppsala, Sweden. Dr. Erlandsson’s daughter, Sara, became Pastor Buelow’s wife in June of 1986. Pastor completed his final year of seminary training and graduated in 1987. That summer he was assigned to his first parish, Holy Redeemer Lutheran in Port Huron, Michigan, where he served for seven years leading the congregation through the building of their first permanent church, before being called back to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, this time as pastor and vicar supervisor. Once again he found himself leading weekly services in German. Six years later, Rev. Buelow was called to establish two mission congregations in central Sweden: Västerås Lutheran Church and Norrköping Lutheran Church. At the same time he worked as a teacher of English and German at a Swedish public junior high school. After two years in Sweden, he received a call to be Co-Pastor at Emanuel First Lutheran in Lansing, Michigan, where he served before accepting the call to Faith Lutheran Church in Carthage in 2009.
In addition to his pastoral work, Rev. Buelow has served as worship coordinator for the WELS Michigan District, and as guest professor of Liturgy at the Biblicum Institute in Sweden. He and his wife Sara, Faith’s music director, translated numerous hymns into Swedish and published a small hymnal while serving in her homeland. Pastor Buelow has been invited to be a presenter at the WELS National Conference on Worship, Music and the Arts, held at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. Together, he and Sara have collaborated (liturgy and music) in leading services for conventions of the CELC (Confessional Ev. Lutheran Conference) in Riga, Latvia and Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Buelows have been blessed with five children: Titus, a junior at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, Wisconsin; Julius, a junior in pre-ministerial studies at Martin Luther College New Ulm, Minnesota; Marjorie, a student at Crowder College in Missouri; Amos, a student at Luther Preparatory School, and Katrina attending Carthage Middle School.
